BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SCENE: Captain Kirk visits his attorney, who is surrounded by books. Kirk asks why he is using books, rather than the computer. The attorney responds that the law is in books, not on a computer.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: A discrepancy between Captain Kirk's report on the death of a crewman and the computer logs results in Kirk facing a court martial for perjury and negligence. Kirk is assigned an attorney who will represent him at the trial.

LEGAL CONCEPT OR RESEARCH TECHNIQUE CLIP ILLUSTRATES: This clip can be used to highlight the concept of authenticity of information; as Kirk's attorney says, often the official word of the law is the version in print books, not in databases. And in the event of a discrepancy between the two, print should win.
