CLIP TOTAL RUN TIME: 1 minute, 1 second

Note: Times can vary depending on which player you're using to show clips. It's always a good idea to verify start and end times before class.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SCENE: We begin in the midst of a firm meeting. A senior partner brings up a new case, and associates vie to take it on. One associate states he’s found a precedential case in the library, another dismisses it because it’s from the wrong circuit. Eli gets the case because of his recent break and big win.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Eli Stone was a high-powered attorney, until he started seeing visions of Georgia Michael singing in his living room. He is diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and begins to use his legal skills for good, not evil. He's just returned from a vacation after a big win.

LEGAL CONCEPT OR RESEARCH TECHNIQUE CLIP ILLUSTRATES: It’s a quick exchange, but students will see an associate lose out on a case assignment because he tries to rely a case that’s only persuasive authority. Dowd, another associate, is quick to point out it’s not mandatory authority. Neither attorney actually uses those words, however, so this clip can also be used to review the concept or as a vocab check. (Note: That attorney still doesn’t actually get the case either, though, since he is not Our Hero.)
